“Viennese wine”
and “Wieninger” are nearly
synonymous. Much of the prestige of Vienna’s wines can be
attributed to the work of the Wieningers. The nearly 100-year-old
winery was run exclusively as a “heurigen” (vineyard
tavern) business until Fritz Wieninger, Jr., became manager of
the wine production in the 1980s . He now concentrates solely
on discriminating, high-quality wines.
The wines are available mainly in fine restaurants
and specialty shops. A small
amount is sold at the winery. Wine-tasting is delightfully uncomplicated
at the family’s own heurigen, which is managed by Fritz’s
brother Leo.
Approximately one third of the entire production is designated
for export. Among the most important
markets are Germany and the U.S., but the new EU member states
have also shown a keen interest.

Wieninger’s recipe for success can be found in the personal
dedication of the entire Wieninger team.
With that unique Viennese charm and grace, they are able to imbue
in customers and friends of the house the winemaker’s philosophy
and pleasure in the enjoyment of wine.
